Extreme Heat Hits Grand Prairie: 100°+ Temperatures Continue This Week

The late-August heat is hitting Grand Prairie and North Texas hard, and the hottest stretch may not be finished yet.

On Sunday, August 23, 2026, the National Weather Service observation at Grand Prairie Municipal Airport recorded temperatures reaching at least 104°F. Nearby DFW International Airport climbed to an extraordinary 109°F, officially breaking the previous August 23 record of 107°F set in 1952.

The heat was widespread across DFW. Sunday afternoon observations showed 105°F at Arlington and Fort Worth Meacham, while DFW Airport was still sitting at 104°F at 7 p.m.

Grand Prairie Could Reach 109°F Today

Unfortunately, Monday may be even hotter.

Grand Prairie is under an Extreme Heat Warning through 9 p.m. Monday, August 24, with dangerously hot conditions and heat-index values potentially reaching 111°F. The latest forecast calls for temperatures around 109°F today.

The National Weather Service says the region is experiencing some of the hottest days of the summer, with extreme heat affecting North and Central Texas.

When Will Grand Prairie Cool Down?

There is some relief ahead, but don't expect genuinely cool weather.

Temperatures are forecast to gradually retreat from the extreme levels early this week, falling toward the low 100s by Wednesday and Thursday and closer to 100°F heading into the weekend. There are also small chances for thunderstorms around midweek.

Even as temperatures fall a few degrees, heat will remain a concern throughout the week.

The National Weather Service recommends limiting strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day, staying hydrated, wearing lightweight clothing and taking frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas.

For Grand Prairie residents, athletes and anyone working or exercising outdoors, this is a week to take the Texas heat seriously.

Bottom line: Sunday's heat was extreme, Monday could be even hotter, and Grand Prairie is likely to remain around or above 100°F for much of the week.

Forecast information is current as of Monday morning, August 24, 2026, and may change as the week progresses.
