Marvel Studios Shakes Up the MCU at San Diego Comic-Con 2026: Black Panther 3, Ghost Rider & Every Major Announcement

Marvel Studios returned to Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con 2026 with one of its biggest presentations in recent years, delivering surprise announcements, exclusive footage, celebrity appearances, and major reveals that will shape the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

From the official announcement of Black Panther 3 to the reveal of a new Black Panther, the long-awaited arrival of Ghost Rider, and an extended look at Avengers: Doomsday, Marvel gave fans plenty to talk about.

Here's everything officially announced.

Black Panther 3 Is Officially Happening

The biggest surprise of the evening came near the end of Marvel Studios' Hall H presentation.

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige welcomed director Ryan Coogler to the stage, where Coogler officially confirmed that Black Panther 3 is in development.

Marvel also announced the film's theatrical release date:

📅 December 15, 2028

Coogler will once again write and direct the next chapter of the Black Panther franchise.

A New Black Panther Has Been Revealed

Perhaps the most emotional moment of the presentation came when Ryan Coogler introduced actor David Jonsson as the MCU's next Black Panther.

Rather than recasting Chadwick Boseman's King T'Challa, Marvel is continuing the story through T'Challa Jr., the son of T'Challa and Nakia, who was introduced during the closing moments of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

David Jonsson will inherit the mantle of Black Panther in the upcoming film, marking the beginning of a new era for Wakanda.

Returning Cast Members

Marvel also confirmed the return of several familiar faces, including:

  • Letitia Wright (Shuri)

  • Winston Duke (M'Baku)

There has been significant speculation surrounding Denzel Washington's involvement after previous comments from Ryan Coogler and Washington himself. However, Marvel did not officially reveal his character or role during the Comic-Con panel, so that information remains unconfirmed.

Ghost Rider Officially Joins the MCU

Another massive announcement came with the reveal that Ghost Rider is finally getting a standalone Marvel Studios film.

Marvel confirmed:

  • Ryan Gosling will star as Ghost Rider.

  • Shawn Levy (Deadpool & Wolverine) will direct.

  • The film is scheduled for release in 2028.

One question remains unanswered:

Marvel did not reveal which version of Ghost Rider Gosling will portray. While many fans expect Johnny Blaze, no official confirmation was made during Hall H.

New Avengers: Doomsday Footage Debuts

Marvel also showcased exclusive footage from Avengers: Doomsday, giving Hall H attendees a preview of what's ahead.

According to Marvel and multiple entertainment outlets, the footage highlighted:

  • Doctor Doom

  • Reed Richards

  • The Fantastic Four

  • Earth's Mightiest Heroes

  • Mutant connections

  • Massive multiversal stakes

Marvel also brought an impressive lineup of cast members to the stage alongside Kevin Feige, making it one of the convention's biggest moments.

Ryan Coogler Takes Center Stage

One of the most memorable aspects of Marvel's presentation wasn't just the announcements, it was Ryan Coogler himself.

Instead of simply revealing another sequel, Coogler spoke about continuing the legacy established in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and personally introduced David Jonsson as the next Black Panther.

The announcement received one of the loudest reactions of the evening.

Marvel Focused on Quality Over Quantity

Unlike some previous Comic-Con presentations packed with dozens of project announcements, Marvel kept this year's showcase focused.

The presentation centered around:

  • Black Panther 3

  • Ghost Rider

  • Avengers: Doomsday

  • Doctor Doom

  • Fantastic Four

Rather than announcing numerous new projects, Marvel chose to expand on a handful of major films that will shape the MCU over the next several years.

What Marvel Did Not Announce

Comic-Con always sparks plenty of rumors, but several fan-favorite projects were not officially announced during Marvel Studios' Hall H panel.

These include:

  • Blade updates

  • A new X-Men film

  • Spider-Man announcements

  • Moon Knight Season 2

  • Young Avengers

  • Midnight Sons

Likewise, Marvel did not reveal:

  • Denzel Washington's role in Black Panther 3

  • Which Ghost Rider Ryan Gosling will portray

While speculation continues online, none of those details were confirmed by Marvel during the event.

A New Chapter Begins for the Marvel Cinematic Universe

Marvel Studios used San Diego Comic-Con 2026 to make one thing clear: the next phase of the MCU is taking shape.

With David Jonsson stepping into the role of the new Black Panther, Ryan Gosling joining the MCU as Ghost Rider, and Avengers: Doomsday moving closer to theaters, fans have plenty to look forward to over the next few years.

While many questions remain unanswered, Hall H delivered exactly what Comic-Con fans were hoping for, major surprises, memorable moments, and a glimpse at what's next for Marvel Studios.
