The Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte Returns Tomorrow
Forget what the calendar says. For millions of coffee drinkers, fall begins tomorrow.
Starbucks has officially confirmed that its iconic Pumpkin Spice Latte returns nationwide on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, as the coffee chain launches its 2026 fall menu.
The seasonal drink has become so closely associated with fall that its annual return routinely becomes an event of its own.
And in 2026, the classic PSL isn't coming back alone.
Starbucks is rolling out a considerably larger fall lineup featuring returning favorites and several entirely new drinks.
What's in a Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte?
The Pumpkin Spice Latte combines Starbucks Signature Espresso and steamed milk with pumpkin and the familiar fall flavors of cinnamon, nutmeg and clove.
It's finished with whipped cream and pumpkin-pie spices. Importantly, the modern Starbucks recipe is made with real pumpkin.
Customers can order the drink hot, iced or blended and customize it through Starbucks' usual milk, espresso and other beverage options.
The Pumpkin Spice Latte Has Been Around for More Than 20 Years
The PSL isn't simply another seasonal coffee anymore.
It has become part of American fall culture.
The story began in 2003, when a small Starbucks development team started experimenting with ideas for an autumn espresso drink inside the company's research and development space, nicknamed the “Liquid Lab.”
And their development process was surprisingly literal.
The team experimented with pumpkin pie and espresso together to identify which flavors worked with coffee. Eventually they settled on the combination of pumpkin and traditional pumpkin-pie spices.
Starbucks initially tested the Pumpkin Spice Latte in approximately 100 stores in Vancouver, British Columbia, and Washington, D.C.
It worked.
After the successful test, Starbucks rolled the PSL out across U.S. stores in fall 2004.
More than two decades later, it remains Starbucks' most recognizable seasonal beverage.
Starbucks' 2026 Fall Menu Is Bigger Than the PSL
The Pumpkin Spice Latte may get most of the attention, but Starbucks is launching a substantial fall menu on August 25.
Returning pumpkin favorites include the Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew and Pumpkin Spice Frappuccino.
Starbucks is also expanding pumpkin spice into new territory this year with drinks including:
Iced Pumpkin Cream Shaken Espresso
Pumpkin Spice Chai
Iced Pumpkin Cream Matcha
Pecan flavors are returning as well, including the Pecan Cortado, Iced Pecan Crunch Latte and Pecan Crunch Latte.
Starbucks Is Also Going Big on Banana Bread
One of the more unexpected additions to Starbucks' 2026 menu is banana bread-inspired beverages.
The lineup includes an Iced Banana Bread Latte and Iced Banana Bread Chai.
Unlike some of the explicitly seasonal pumpkin offerings, Starbucks says the banana bread beverages are joining its menu beyond the fall season.
Meet the New Starbucks Chaider
There's another completely new drink arriving August 25.
Chaider.
It's Starbucks' take on combining chai and apple cider, bringing another classic fall flavor profile to the menu.
The Chaider will be available hot or iced.
New Fall Food Is Coming Too
The fall launch isn't limited to drinks.
Starbucks is introducing a Chicken Bacon Protein Pocket and the new Hedgehog Cake Pop, while the seasonal Pumpkin Cream Cheese Muffin returns.
That makes August 25 a fairly substantial menu reset rather than simply the annual return of one famous latte.
Starbucks Is Leaning Into the PSL's Cultural Status
Starbucks knows exactly what the Pumpkin Spice Latte has become.
For 2026, the company has partnered with Martha Stewart and actor Belmont Cameli for a campaign celebrating the drink's reputation as an unapologetically recognizable symbol of fall.
Starbucks' campaign essentially embraces the PSL's status as the drink people love to call “basic” while simultaneously lining up to order it every year.
And more than two decades after its introduction, that's arguably part of the appeal.
Pumpkin Spice Latte season has become less about when autumn technically begins and more about the annual ritual of deciding that it's fall because the PSL is back.
When Does the Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte Return in 2026?
The official date is:
Tuesday, August 25, 2026.
Starbucks' full fall menu launches the same day at participating U.S. coffeehouses. Seasonal offerings are generally available for a limited time and can vary by location and availability.
Pumpkin Spice Season Starts August 25

Starting August 25, Starbucks customers can once again order the drink that helped turn pumpkin spice into one of the most recognizable seasonal flavors in America.
