D23 2026: Every Major Disney, Marvel, Pixar, Star Wars and Theme Park Announcement You Need to Know

D23 2026 Just Ended, and Disney Announced A Lot

Disney fans just got one of their biggest weekends of the year.

D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event took over Anaheim from August 14 through August 16, 2026, bringing together Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic, Disney+, Hulu, ESPN, Disney Experiences and more.


The Anaheim Convention Center hosted what Disney described as the largest D23 show floor in the event's history, while the biggest evening presentations took place at the Honda Center.


The weekend produced major announcements about movies, streaming series, video games, Disney World, Disneyland and Disney's international theme parks.


Among the biggest:

Frozen 3. A new X-Men movie. Avengers: Doomsday. Incredibles 3. Coco 2. Zootopia 3. Lilo & Stitch 2. A live-action Tangled. A Kingdom Hearts anime. Ahsoka Season 2. Star Wars: Starfighter. Villains Land. Tomorrowland. Figment and Dreamfinder. Avengers Campus. Monstropolis. Encanto. Indiana Jones.

And that's nowhere near everything.

When and Where Was D23 2026?

Dates: August 14-16, 2026

Location: Anaheim Convention Center and Honda Center

City: Anaheim, California


Disney actually began the festivities on August 13 with D23 Day at Disneyland Resort, which included special experiences and a Disney Legends Cavalcade.

The convention itself officially began August 14.


The weekend revolved around three enormous components:

Friday: Disney Entertainment Showcase

Saturday: Horizons: Disney Experiences Showcase

Sunday: Disney Legends Awards Ceremony

Alongside those presentations were hundreds of exhibits, panels, performances, shopping opportunities, anniversary celebrations and fan experiences.


MOVIES & STREAMING: EVERYTHING DISNEY ANNOUNCED

Frozen 3 Gets a November 2027 Release

One of D23's biggest reveals belonged to Frozen 3.

Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel and Josh Gad appeared during the presentation, with Bell and Menzel performing a new version of "Frozen Heart."


Gad performed a new Olaf love song titled "Ooooh, Samantha."

Disney also showed new animation featuring Anna, Elsa, Olaf, Kristoff and Sven.

Perhaps most interestingly, the footage teased a new female villain whose powers appear capable of rivaling Elsa's.


Disney confirmed:

Frozen 3 release date: November 24, 2027.

Jennifer Lee and Trent Correy are directing.


Zootopia 3 Is Officially Happening

Disney Animation also confirmed that Zootopia 3 is officially in early development.

Ginnifer Goodwin and Ke Huy Quan joined Disney Animation Chief Creative Officer Jared Bush for the announcement.

Disney even screened a custom sequence for the D23 audience.

There is no confirmed release date yet.


Lilo & Stitch 2 Is Coming

The live-action Lilo & Stitch is officially getting a sequel.

Disney says Lilo & Stitch 2 will begin production in Hawaii later in 2026.

Chris Sanders, who co-created and co-directed the original animated movie and voices Stitch, will direct.

Disney has already set the theatrical release:

May 26, 2028.

The announcement follows the enormous commercial success of the 2025 live-action film, which Disney says surpassed $1 billion at the worldwide box office.


The Bluey Movie Gets Its First Teaser

Parents may have another date to circle.

Disney debuted a new teaser and poster for The Bluey Movie.

The CG-animated feature is written and directed by Bluey creator Joe Brumm, with Melanie Zanetti and David McCormack returning as Chilli and Bandit.

The story takes place during an eventful day in which a major surprise changes things for Bluey and her family.


Release date: August 6, 2027. 


Live-Action Tangled Is Coming in 2028

Disney also revealed considerably more about its live-action adaptation of Tangled.

The cast includes:

  • Teagan Croft as Rapunzel

  • Milo Manheim as Flynn Rider

  • Kathryn Hahn as Mother Gothel

  • Caitríona Balfe as Queen Arianna

  • Elliot Cowan as King Frederic

  • Diego Luna as a new character named Hawthorne

Michael Gracey is directing.

Filming is currently underway in Spain.

Tangled hits theaters March 31, 2028. 


Ice Age: Boiling Point

The Ice Age franchise isn't finished either.

Queen Latifah and Denis Leary appeared at D23 to introduce footage from Ice Age: Boiling Point.


The new adventure reunites Manny, Sid, Diego, Ellie and Buck while introducing Jurassic Scrat, a prehistoric relative of Scrat and Baby Scrat.

Disney describes the movie as a dinosaur-and-lava-filled adventure through previously unexplored portions of the Lost World.

Release date: February 5, 2027. 


Oswald the Lucky Rabbit Is Getting a Disney+ Series

One of Disney's oldest characters is returning in a very modern way.

Jon Favreau is creating Oswald, a live-action/animation hybrid series built around Oswald the Lucky Rabbit.

The premise involves an earthquake releasing Oswald, who has apparently been hidden away since the 1920s. A middle-school boy and his friends then attempt to help him navigate the modern world.

Oswald premieres February 17, 2027 on Disney+. 


PIXAR'S MASSIVE D23 2026 LINEUP

Pixar had several major announcements of its own.


Incredibles 3 Arrives in 2028

Disney and Pixar provided the first look at Incredibles 3.

Peter Sohn is directing, while Dana Murray and Brad Bird are producing.

Disney has now set an exact date:

June 16, 2028. 


Coco 2 Is Coming in 2029

Pixar also provided its first substantial look at Coco 2.

Miguel is now a teenager.

And perhaps the biggest surprise:

Ernesto de la Cruz is returning.


Benjamin Bratt appeared onstage to help announce that the original film's villain will reemerge, setting Miguel on another life-changing journey into the Land of the Dead.

Original director Lee Unkrich and co-director Adrian Molina are returning.

Coco 2 arrives November 2029. 


Pixar Announces a Completely New Movie: Ghost Market

Not everything announced was a sequel.

Pixar revealed an original film called Ghost Market.

The story centers around ʻOno Market, a tiny plate-lunch restaurant hidden on Oahu's North Shore that serves lost spirits caught between life and death.


No living person has ever entered until a kid named Kyle accidentally finds his way inside.

Trevor Jimenez and Jesse Andrews are directing.

Ghost Market is scheduled for March 2028. 


Gatto Arrives in March 2027

Pixar also showed exclusive footage from Gatto.

Mark Ruffalo voices Nero, a black cat navigating Venice who becomes indebted to a feline mob boss named Rocco, voiced by Laurence Fishburne.

The movie comes from Luca director Enrico Casarosa and producer Andrea Warren.

Gatto releases March 5, 2027. 


KINGDOM HEARTS IV GETS MAJOR NEWS

Gaming fans weren't left out.

Disney and Square Enix revealed that Kingdom Hearts IV will include a world inspired by Coco.

Even bigger:

Kingdom Hearts IV is targeting late 2027. 


A KINGDOM HEARTS ANIME IS ALSO COMING

That wasn't the only Kingdom Hearts announcement.

Disney has officially greenlit a Kingdom Hearts animated series.

The working-title anime is being developed for Disney Channel and Disney+ in collaboration with Square Enix and Kingdom Hearts creator Tetsuya Nomura.

Rather than simply retelling the games, Disney says it will feature a new story that expands the Kingdom Hearts universe.

That could become a very significant project for the franchise.


MARVEL HAD ONE OF D23'S BIGGEST NIGHTS

Marvel Studios used D23 to reveal significant new information about its upcoming slate.

Avengers: Doomsday Gets a Major New Look

Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans and Hayley Atwell joined Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige onstage.


Disney released new footage from Avengers: Doomsday, along with a new poster.

The movie brings together characters from multiple Marvel universes against an existential threat.


Robert Downey Jr. stars as Victor von Doom/Doctor Doom, while Chris Evans is returning as Steve Rogers.

The enormous cast also includes Chris Hemsworth, Pedro Pascal, Paul Rudd, Anthony Mackie, Florence Pugh, Vanessa Kirby, Tom Hiddleston, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, James Marsden, Channing Tatum and many more.

Avengers: Doomsday opens December 18, 2026. 


Marvel Reveals Its New X-Men

One of the weekend's biggest casting reveals concerned Marvel's upcoming X-Men movie.

The confirmed lineup includes:

  • Sadie Sink: Jean Grey

  • Kit Connor: Scott Summers/Cyclops

  • Christopher Abbott: Professor Charles Xavier

  • Samara Weaving: Emma Frost

  • Inde Navarrette: Rogue

  • Maya Boyd: Storm

Adam Driver also announced that he will play Nathaniel Milbury.

Jake Schreier is directing.

Marvel's new X-Men movie arrives May 5, 2028. 


VisionQuest Arrives This October

Marvel also revealed the trailer for VisionQuest.

Paul Bettany returns as Vision, with James Spader returning as Ultron.

The series follows WandaVision and Agatha All Along and will conclude that interconnected trilogy.

Vision is attempting to understand his identity while interacting with AI personalities embedded within his programming, including J.A.R.V.I.S., F.R.I.D.A.Y., E.D.I.T.H. and Ultron.

VisionQuest premieres October 14, 2026 on Disney+. 


Marvel's Wolverine Gets a September Release

Insomniac Games and Marvel Games also showed a new trailer for Marvel's Wolverine.

The PlayStation 5 game is now scheduled for:

September 15, 2026. 


STAR WARS NEWS FROM D23 2026

Ahsoka Season 2 Arrives January 2027

Rosario Dawson, Hayden Christensen and Eman Esfandi joined Dave Filoni to debut the first teaser for Ahsoka Season 2.

The story continues Ahsoka Tano and Sabine Wren's journey while Grand Admiral Thrawn threatens the New Republic.

Disney confirmed:

Ahsoka Season 2 premieres January 20, 2027 on Disney+. 


Ryan Gosling's Star Wars Movie Gets New Details

Ryan Gosling appeared alongside director Shawn Levy to preview Star Wars: Starfighter.

Gosling plays a character caught up in a dangerous galactic adventure after his mysterious past resurfaces.

The cast also includes:

Matt Smith, Mia Goth, Aaron Pierre, Jamael Westman, Daniel Ings, Flynn Gray and Amy Adams.

The film is written by Jonathan Tropper.

Star Wars: Starfighter opens May 28, 2027. 


Percy Jackson Season 3

Disney also debuted the official teaser for Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 3.

The upcoming season adapts elements of The Titan's Curse.

Walker Scobell appeared alongside surprise guests Ming-Na Wen as Hera and Andra Day as Athena.

Season 3 arrives on Disney+ on:

November 20, 2026. 


THE SIMPSONS ARE HEADING BACK TO THEATERS

D23 also included a preview of the upcoming Simpsons movie.

Disney confirmed the film is scheduled to reach theaters:

September 3, 2027. 


Romy & Michele Are Returning

Mira Sorvino and Lisa Kudrow appeared to discuss Romy & Michele 2, a sequel to the 1997 comedy.

The movie also features Alan Cumming, Camryn Manheim, Keegan-Michael Key, Breckin Meyer, Wendi McLendon-Covey and Janeane Garofalo.

It will debut on Hulu in 2027.


The Greatest Showman Is Coming to London's West End

Disney Theatrical Group announced that its stage adaptation of The Greatest Showman will move to London's Theatre Royal Drury Lane.

The production begins its West End run in spring 2027.


Walt Disney World Had a Huge D23

For theme-park fans, Saturday night's Horizons: Disney Experiences Showcase may have been even bigger than Friday's movie presentation.

Neil Patrick Harris hosted the show, which included performances from Sheryl Crow, Beck, Los Lobos and Gloria Gaynor.

And Disney revealed updates across virtually its entire parks portfolio.


VILLAINS LAND: Disney Reveals Much More About Magic Kingdom's Dark New World

One of Disney World's most anticipated projects remains Villains Land at Magic Kingdom.

Disney confirmed additional development of the land during D23, which is planned as a major expansion centered around Disney's iconic villains.

The new land is being developed alongside Magic Kingdom's other massive expansion projects.

Disney has not announced an opening date.

That distinction matters because social-media posts assigning a specific opening year to Villains Land remain speculation unless Disney announces one.


Piston Peak Is Transforming Magic Kingdom

Disney also revealed more about its Cars-inspired Piston Peak area coming to Magic Kingdom.

The development is part of the major transformation taking place beyond Frontierland.

Disney used D23 to provide additional information about two attractions planned for the new area.

Piston Peak represents one of the largest physical changes underway at Magic Kingdom.


MONSTROPOLIS OPENS IN 2027

Disney's Hollywood Studios is getting an entire Monsters, Inc. land.

Called Monstropolis, the area will allow humans into the monster city as part of a special celebration.

The centerpiece is Disney's first suspended coaster, inspired by the iconic door-vault sequence from Monsters, Inc.

The land will also include themed dining, shopping and entertainment.

Most importantly:

Monstropolis is scheduled to open in 2027. 


ENCANTO Is Coming to Animal Kingdom

Disney's Animal Kingdom is undergoing an enormous transformation as the former DinoLand U.S.A. area becomes Tropical Americas.

One of its headline attractions will be based on Encanto.

Guests will enter the magical world of the Madrigal family and explore the Casita as part of the attraction.

Disney presented new information about the project during D23 as Tropical Americas continues development.


Harrison Ford Is Joining Disney World's Indiana Jones Attraction

Another major Tropical Americas attraction will be:

Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent.

And Disney delivered a huge surprise.

Harrison Ford's likeness will be used for the Indiana Jones Audio-Animatronic.

Ford himself appeared in a prerecorded message during D23 to announce his involvement.

The attraction will take guests into a Mayan temple as part of an original Indiana Jones adventure.


THE YETI IS COMING BACK TO LIFE

This one may be especially exciting for longtime Disney World fans.

Disney announced that the famous Yeti Audio-Animatronic inside Expedition Everest at Animal Kingdom will be brought back to life.

The enormous figure has famously operated in a limited mode for years.

Disney used D23 to confirm that the Yeti is getting another chance to terrify riders as originally intended.

For Disney Parks enthusiasts, this was one of the weekend's most unexpected announcements.


FIGMENT AND DREAMFINDER ARE COMING BACK TOGETHER

EPCOT fans received another enormous surprise.

Disney announced a complete reimagining of Journey Into Imagination.

And yes:

Figment AND Dreamfinder will be part of it.

Dreamfinder's return is particularly significant because the character has been absent from the attraction for decades.

Disney confirmed that the reimagined attraction will feature both characters.

For longtime EPCOT fans, this could easily rank among the most consequential announcements of D23 2026.


Spaceship Earth Is Also Being Reimagined

EPCOT isn't stopping with Journey Into Imagination.

Disney Parks Blog also confirmed plans for a major refurbishment and reimagining of Spaceship Earth.

That means two of EPCOT's most historically important attractions now have major updates on the horizon.


DISNEYLAND'S TOMORROWLAND IS FINALLY BEING REIMAGINED

Disneyland fans have spent years wondering what would happen to Tomorrowland.

Now Disney has officially answered at least part of that question.

Disney announced that Tomorrowland at Disneyland Park will be reimagined as the resort looks toward its future.

The announcement was one of the headline surprises of Saturday night's presentation.

Disney has not yet revealed every attraction that will stay, disappear or be replaced.

So while the redevelopment is official, many specific Tomorrowland rumors circulating online remain unconfirmed.


AVENGERS CAMPUS IS GETTING MUCH BIGGER

Disney California Adventure's Avengers Campus is undergoing a major expansion.

Two major attractions are coming:

Avengers Infinity Defense

and

Stark Flight Lab


Disney says the expansion will effectively double the size of Avengers Campus.

Robert Downey Jr. will reprise Tony Stark/Iron Man for the attractions.

Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Jeremy Renner, Brie Larson and other MCU performers are also involved.


The new attractions are targeting 2028.


A Coco Attraction Is Coming to Disney California Adventure

Pixar's Coco is also getting its own major Disney California Adventure attraction.

Disney provided additional details about the ride during D23 as development continues.

The attraction represents another significant expansion of Pixar's presence at Disneyland Resort.


DISNEY PARKS AROUND THE WORLD ARE CHANGING TOO

D23 wasn't only about Florida and California.

Disney confirmed updates across its international parks.

Among the highlights:

Disneyland Paris: A major Lion King-themed area and attraction.

Hong Kong Disneyland: Additional Marvel experiences.

Shanghai Disney Resort: New Marvel experiences.

Tokyo Disney Resort: A reimagined Space Mountain experience.

Disney specifically highlighted these projects during the Experiences Showcase.


Disney Cruise Line Reveals More of Its Future

Disney Cruise Line also participated in the D23 announcements, providing a first look at its next class of ships and additional information about upcoming vessels.

Disney Parks Blog also highlighted updates surrounding Disney Believe, a new ship scheduled to sail in late 2027.

Disney's aggressive cruise expansion remains a major part of the company's broader Experiences strategy.


Disney Princess Experience Announced

Disney Theatrical Group is developing a new immersive attraction called the Disney Princess Experience.


The project is expected to incorporate worlds inspired by:

Rapunzel, Tiana, Belle, Moana and Ariel.

Disney describes it as an interactive quest incorporating music and discoveries throughout the experience.

Additional details have not yet been announced.


LEGO Star Wars: The Mandalorian

D23 attendees also received the first screening of LEGO Star Wars: The Mandalorian.

The animated special arrives on Disney+:

September 2, 2026. 


Spidey and His Amazing Friends Makes History

Disney also announced that Marvel's Spidey and His Amazing Friends has been renewed for a seventh season.


According to Disney, that makes it the longest-running Spider-Man television series.

Disney says the preschool series has accumulated nearly 1.3 billion hours streamed globally on Disney+.


Mundo Pixar Is Coming to the United States

Another announcement that could be especially interesting for families:

Mundo Pixar Experience is launching its first U.S. tour in 2027.

The immersive Pixar attraction has previously appeared internationally, including in Mexico, Brazil, Spain, Belgium, South Korea, Japan and the United Kingdom.


Disney says additional U.S. locations and dates will be announced later.

That is one worth watching for DFW.

There is currently no confirmed Dallas-Fort Worth stop, however, so any claim that it is coming to Dallas at this point would be premature.


Disney and Formula 1 Extend Their Partnership

Disney and Formula 1 also announced an extension of their Fuel the Magic partnership.

The collaboration will now continue through 2028 and include experiences, content and merchandise connecting Disney characters with Formula 1.


D23 WAS ALSO A HUGE COLLECTOR EVENT

Not everything revolved around announcements.

Disney says the Anaheim Convention Center hosted the largest show floor in D23 history, featuring immersive exhibits, merchandise, collectibles, pins, artwork and interactive experiences.


The Walt Disney Archives alone displayed more than 200 objects, which D23 described as the largest collection the Archives has ever exhibited at the event.

Artifacts represented everything from Hannah Montana and High School Musical to The Devil Wears Prada, Mary Poppins, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin and Once Upon a Time.


Disney pin trading also remained a major part of the convention. Reuters reported substantial demand for limited-edition releases, including a 15-character Premier Collection limited to 1,000 sets.


Mousequerade Returned

The D23 Mousequerade, Disney's major fan costume competition, returned Saturday.

Disney highlighted elaborate fan-created costumes celebrating characters and stories from throughout the company's history.

The weekend also featured panels and celebrations devoted to Kingdom Hearts, Spider-Man, Zootopia, Tinker Bell, Beauty and the Beast, Enchanted, The Simpsons, Bob's Burgers, Disney Lorcana and more.


D23 2026 ENDED WITH THE DISNEY LEGENDS

The final major event took place Sunday, August 16.

Ryan Seacrest hosted the 2026 Disney Legends Awards Ceremony at the Honda Center.

Disney's 2026 Legends class included:

Why D23 2026 Was So Important

The biggest takeaway from D23 2026 isn't any one movie or ride.

It's the sheer scale of Disney's pipeline.


Disney spent the weekend outlining projects extending through 2027, 2028, 2029 and beyond across theatrical films, streaming, gaming, theme parks, cruises and live entertainment.


Marvel is building toward Avengers: Doomsday while simultaneously introducing a new generation of X-Men.


Pixar is balancing major sequels such as Incredibles 3 and Coco 2 with an original film in Ghost Market.


Disney Animation is continuing Frozen and Zootopia.

Lucasfilm has both Ahsoka and Starfighter ahead.

And Disney Experiences is simultaneously rebuilding or expanding major portions of Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom, Disneyland and California Adventure.


The parks announcements may ultimately have the longest-lasting impact. A reimagined Tomorrowland, the return of Dreamfinder, a functioning Expedition Everest Yeti, Villains Land, Tropical Americas and Avengers Campus represent physical changes guests could experience for decades.


D23 2026 Is Over. Now the Waiting Begins.

Three days in Anaheim gave Disney fans a much clearer picture of what the next several years could look like.

Some projects are only weeks away.

Others won't arrive until 2028 or 2029.


And projects such as Villains Land, Tomorrowland and Zootopia 3 remain far enough away that Disney hasn't announced final opening dates.

That's an important point as D23 coverage spreads online. Concept art, projects in development and confirmed release dates are not interchangeable. Some announcements are locked to specific dates, while others remain early-stage plans that could evolve considerably before opening.


But one thing is clear after D23 2026:

Disney just laid out an enormous roadmap for what comes next.
