Sneak A Peek at Prairie Lights 2026: Run or Walk Through Millions of Holiday Lights in Grand Prairie
One of Grand Prairie's most unique holiday fitness events is almost here.
The 18th Annual Sneak-A-Peek at Prairie Lights returns to Lynn Creek Park on Saturday, November 21 and Sunday, November 22, 2026, giving runners, walkers and families an opportunity to experience Prairie Lights before the popular holiday attraction officially opens to regular vehicle traffic.
Instead of driving through the display, participants will get to move through it on foot.
Saturday is dedicated to a timed 5K for runners and joggers, while Sunday features a more relaxed 3-mile walk for walkers, families and strollers.
And if you're planning to participate, there is a reason to register early.
Early Bird pricing is available through September 30.

Saturday, November 21: Timed Prairie Lights 5K
Saturday is race night.
The Sneak-A-Peek 5K begins at 6:00 p.m. and takes participants through the Prairie Lights display along the full light-show route.
This is a timed 5K designed for runners and joggers, so participants can treat it as a fun holiday event, a competitive local race or both.
The City of Grand Prairie says awards will be presented to the:
1st place
2nd place
and
3rd place
finishers in each of 17 age groups.
An awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on stage immediately after the final finisher completes the race.
One important restriction for Saturday:
Strollers and dogs are not permitted during the 5K.
Sunday, November 22: 3 Mile Family Walk
Sunday offers a much different experience.
The 3-mile walk also begins at 6:00 p.m., but it is untimed and designed for a more relaxed pace.
This is the better option for families, casual walkers and anyone who wants to take their time enjoying the holiday displays.
Unlike Saturday's 5K:
Strollers are welcome.
Dogs are welcome.
That makes Sunday's event especially family-friendly.
You still get the experience of walking through the illuminated Prairie Lights course, but without the competitive race environment.
Early Bird Pricing Ends September 30
If you already know you want to participate, registering before the end of September can save money.
The official 2026 registration pricing is:

October 1 to 17: $39.73
October 18 to 31: $45.11
The Early Bird period ends September 30, so waiting until October increases the registration price.
There is also a group option.
Groups of 10 or more participants can register for $25 per person, provided the entire group registers together. Team registration closes October 16.
Every Participant Gets a Commemorative T-Shirt
Both the 5K and 3-mile walk include a commemorative Sneak-A-Peek T-shirt with registration.
That gives participants a keepsake from one of Grand Prairie's longest-running seasonal community events.
Children 4 years old and younger do not need to register, according to the City's official event information.

After the event begins, participants will not be permitted to enter or exit the park until the course has been cleared.

What Exactly Is Prairie Lights?
Prairie Lights is one of Grand Prairie's signature holiday attractions.
For 2026, Prairie Lights is scheduled to officially open to the public on Thursday, November 26 and continue every night through December 31 from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
The City describes the attraction as featuring approximately 4 million lights along a 2-mile route, with hundreds of displays throughout the park.
Normally, Prairie Lights is experienced as a drive-through holiday attraction.
Sneak-A-Peek flips that experience.
For two nights, participants get to experience those lights on foot before the official seasonal opening.
