One of the most recognizable entertainment companies associated with North Texas is officially bringing its headquarters back home.
Six Flags Entertainment Corporation announced August 25, 2026 that it will relocate its corporate headquarters from Charlotte, North Carolina, to Arlington, Texas in 2027.

The move is expected to be completed by March 2027.
And Six Flags isn't moving into an unfamiliar building.
The company's new headquarters will be located inside Choctaw Stadium, the former home of the Texas Rangers, where Six Flags has maintained corporate offices since 2020.
The announcement effectively brings the corporate headquarters of the modern Six Flags organization back to the city where the Six Flags story began more than six decades ago.
Where Will the New Six Flags Headquarters Be?
Six Flags' headquarters will be located at its existing corporate office inside Choctaw Stadium in Arlington's Entertainment District.

City documents show that Six Flags planned to occupy approximately 40,842 square feet of office space at the stadium as part of its 2020 corporate headquarters project.
Choctaw Stadium sits in one of the most concentrated sports and entertainment districts in Texas.
More importantly for Six Flags, its corporate leadership will be just minutes away from Six Flags Over Texas, the amusement park where the entire Six Flags legacy began.
Why Is Six Flags Moving Its Headquarters Back to Arlington?
Six Flags says the relocation is about much more than nostalgia.
President and CEO John Reilly said Arlington's central location and business environment make it a strong base for the company's long-term plans. The company believes consolidating corporate personnel, processes and decision-making in Arlington will improve collaboration and operational efficiency while strengthening support for its parks and resorts.
There is another major operational advantage.
Texas represents an important concentration of Six Flags properties, and moving corporate leadership to Arlington puts executives considerably closer to those operations.
Six Flags specifically said the Arlington location gives leadership greater connectivity to its five Texas properties.
The company also pointed to the Dallas-Fort Worth area's talent pool as an advantage as it works on its long-term growth plans.
When Is Six Flags Moving to Arlington?
The corporate relocation is expected to be completed by March 2027.
That does not mean Six Flags has to wait until next year to establish an Arlington presence.
It already has one.
Choctaw Stadium has served as a corporate office since 2020, and part of the Six Flags corporate workforce currently works there.
The upcoming move elevates that existing Arlington operation into the primary hub for Six Flags corporate leadership and shared business functions.

Why Was Six Flags Headquarters in Charlotte?
The answer goes back to one of the largest changes in the amusement-park industry in recent years.
Legacy Six Flags and Cedar Fair announced plans to combine their businesses in 2023.
The companies completed their merger of equals on July 1, 2024, creating a new combined company operating under the Six Flags Entertainment Corporation name.
Under the merger arrangement, the combined company's headquarters was established in Charlotte, North Carolina, while significant finance and administrative operations were maintained in Sandusky, Ohio.
The new company retained the Six Flags name and began trading on the New York Stock Exchange under Cedar Fair's former ticker symbol, FUN.
Now, roughly two years after that combination, the corporate center is shifting again.
This time, it is heading back to Texas.
Six Flags Never Completely Left Arlington
That's an important part of this story.
Although the combined company's headquarters became Charlotte-based following the 2024 merger, Six Flags continued operating its Arlington corporate office.
In fact, Arlington had already worked with Six Flags years earlier to establish its corporate headquarters at what was then Globe Life Park and is now Choctaw Stadium.
A City of Arlington economic-development document describes a project in which Six Flags planned to transform approximately 40,842 square feet of former Texas Rangers office space into a corporate headquarters. The company contemplated approximately $6 million in renovations and a long-term lease arrangement.
Choctaw Stadium has served as a Six Flags corporate office since 2020.
So the 2027 move is, quite literally, a return.
Six Flags and Arlington Have Been Connected Since the Beginning
Few corporate headquarters relocations have a stronger historical connection to their destination.
Six Flags didn't simply happen to operate a theme park in Arlington.
The Six Flags concept was born here.
A Short History of Six Flags
The story begins with Texas businessman Angus G. Wynne Jr.
During the late 1950s, Wynne envisioned a large family-entertainment destination that could offer the scale and excitement of major destination amusement parks while being located closer to the population it served. Six Flags' own history describes Wynne's vision as creating large-scale parks emphasizing thrilling rides and family entertainment.
Wynne was involved in developing the Great Southwest Industrial District, a massive development located in the Arlington and Grand Prairie area.
After visiting Disneyland, Wynne pursued the idea of creating a theme park with a distinctly Texas identity. Construction began in August 1960 on approximately 105 acres between Arlington and Grand Prairie.

Six Flags Over Texas
Six Flags Over Texas officially opened on August 5, 1961.
The Texas State Historical Association identifies Wynne as the driving force behind the park, while a Texas Senate resolution commemorating its 50th anniversary identifies him as its founder.
The name Six Flags Over Texas referenced the six governments whose flags had flown over Texas during its history.
The park was an immediate success.
According to the Texas State Historical Association, 8,374 visitors reportedly attended its August 5, 1961 grand opening, and the park's owners were already planning additional attractions by the end of its first year.
Six Flags Over Texas would ultimately provide the name and foundation for the Six Flags amusement-park brand.
More than 65 years after the original Arlington park opened, the corporation carrying that name is preparing to make Arlington its headquarters once again.
Why Arlington Makes Sense for Six Flags
The relocation becomes particularly logical when looking at Arlington today.
The original Six Flags Over Texas is no longer sitting relatively alone between Dallas and Fort Worth.
It is now part of one of North Texas' most important entertainment districts.
Arlington's Entertainment District includes major destinations such as Six Flags Over Texas, Globe Life Field, AT&T Stadium and Choctaw Stadium.
Six Flags' corporate executives will therefore work in the same district as one of the company's flagship amusement parks.
CEO John Reilly specifically highlighted that proximity, saying the office's location next to Six Flags Over Texas will give company leadership a meaningful on-the-ground presence at the park while improving connectivity to its Texas properties.
That can provide corporate leaders with something that's difficult to replicate from an office hundreds of miles away:
direct exposure to park operations and the guest experience.
The Move Comes During Major Investment at Six Flags Over Texas
The headquarters announcement also comes during a significant period for the Arlington park itself.
In July 2026, Six Flags Over Texas opened Tormenta: Rampaging Run, which Six Flags has promoted as the world's first giga dive coaster.
Local reporting on the headquarters relocation also points to broader improvements being made throughout the Arlington park, including upgrades to restaurants, restrooms and other areas.
The timing makes the headquarters relocation particularly notable.
Six Flags isn't merely returning corporate leadership to the city where the company started.
It's doing so while continuing to invest in the original park.
What Happens to Six Flags Employees in Charlotte?
The relocation naturally raises another question:
What happens to the people currently working at Six Flags headquarters in Charlotte?
According to the company's announcement, many Charlotte-based employees will have an opportunity to relocate to Arlington.
The relocation is intended to concentrate more of the company's personnel, processes and corporate decision-making in Texas.
Six Flags has also emphasized that moving its headquarters does not mean it is abandoning its North Carolina parks. The company said it remains committed to investing in its properties there, including Carowinds and Carolina Harbor.
What Does the Six Flags Headquarters Move Mean for Arlington?
The most obvious impact is economic.
Corporate headquarters bring professional jobs, executives, business activity and spending into a city.
Arlington Mayor Jim Ross said the relocation would bring “a good number of employees” to Arlington and described the company's return as significant for the city.
But there is also a symbolic impact that is difficult to ignore.

Soon, it will once again host:
Six Flags Entertainment Corporation.
For a city that has spent decades developing itself into a major sports, tourism and entertainment destination, having one of North America's largest regional amusement-park operators headquartered in the Entertainment District strengthens that identity even further.

For Arlington and the greater Dallas-Fort Worth region, it represents another significant corporate relocation.
For Six Flags, it represents something even more unusual:
a return to the city where the story started 65 years ago.
