What Out-of-Town Athletes Should Know Before Coming to HYROX Las Vegas
Traveling to Las Vegas for HYROX adds a whole new layer of excitement - but it also comes with a few extra details athletes should keep in mind. Whether you’re flying in from across the country or road-tripping into the city, here’s everything you should know to make race weekend smooth, stress-free, and performance-ready.
1. Arrive Early to Adjust
Las Vegas may not be far geographically, but the energy of the city hits fast.If you can, arrive 1-2 days before the race so you can:
Shake off travel fatigue
Hydrate fully
Scout the venue
Pick up your packet earlyTravel stress can impact your race - arriving early helps you settle in.
2. Stay Close to the Venue
The Las Vegas Convention Center is the hub of the event, and staying nearby makes your weekend 10x easier. Hotels within 5-10 minutes include:
Westgate Las Vegas
Renaissance Las Vegas
Resorts World
Sahara - Staying close keeps your routine tight, reduces morning stress, and avoids long Uber lines.
3. Hydrate More Than Usual
Vegas is dry desert air, even in February. Most athletes underestimate how quickly dehydration creeps in.Start increasing your water and electrolytes the moment you land - not just the morning of the race.
4. Avoid the Vegas “Trap”
Vegas is fun… a little too fun. If you're here to race:
Avoid late nights
Keep alcohol minimal
Walk the Strip after the event, not before
Too many athletes show up fatigued because they wanted “just one night out.” Don’t let Vegas steal your race performance.
5. Scout the Venue
The Las Vegas Convention Center is huge. Give yourself time to:
Locate entrance doors
Find warm-up areas
Identify bathrooms
Estimate walk time from your hotel. Knowing the layout ahead of time lowers race-day nerves.
6. Keep Meals Simple
Vegas has world-class food, but race weekend isn’t the time to experiment. Stick to foods you normally eat before tough workouts. Save the buffets and wild dinners for your post-race celebration.
7. Pack Layers
Even though Vegas is warm during the day, the mornings and indoor venues can be chilly. Bring:
Light hoodie
Warm-up pants
Comfortable shoes for long venue walks
You’ll stay warm before your heat and cozy after you finish.
8. Plan Transportation Ahead
Uber and Lyft surge heavily during big events and weekends. If you don’t stay within walking distance:
Schedule rides the night before
Leave early (traffic around the venue can spike)
Consider the Las Vegas Monorail, which stops right by the Convention Center
Being late to check-in is the fastest way to stress yourself out.
9. Post-Race: Celebrate Smart
Vegas is one of the best cities to celebrate a hard-earned medal. Popular athlete spots after HYROX:
The Venetian restaurants
Resorts World food hall
Shake Shack
Nacho Daddy
The Wynn buffet
Recover, enjoy, refuel - but hydrate well, especially if you plan to hit the Strip.
